Calling all First Time Buyers

Tuesday, February 07, 2012

Dave Geddie

By Dave Geddie, Property Partner

The window of opportunity for First Time Buyers exemption from paying Stamp Duty will come to an end on 23rd March 2012. This concession relieves First Time Buyers from paying 1% Stamp Duty for purchases under £250,000.

As a result, Simpson & Marwick advise that there is no better time to get your first foot on the property ladder and complete your first purchase. By acting now you could take advantage of this benefit before it is scrapped and avoid losing out on a valuable saving.

An important matter to note is that exemption will only apply to purchases completing on or before 23rd March 2012 i.e. the agreed date that you will actually obtain keys to the property and move in. Simply putting in an offer for a property or having concluded missives for a purchase prior to the 23rd March 2012 will not make purchasers eligible for relief.

Act now and contact Dave Geddie today to get advice on claiming relief from Stamp Duty and purchasing your first property in Aberdeen.
